About Me

Gabriela Barroeta Lares

Hey I’m Gaby, a 22-year-old Venezuelan navigating life’s beautiful chaos. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. I'm almost in the last year of my bachelor in Germany; as of right now I'm in Waterford, Ireland as part of my Erasmus exchange experience.

Life until high school felt like merely going through the motions. Moving abroad for college in Heidelberg, Germany, was a turning point that opened my eyes. I found new friends who shaped and changed me, helping me grow and push my limits in many ways

During lockdown, in 2020 I bought my first electric guitar, one of the best decision I have ever done.  I realized how much I craved freedom, creativity and self expression which music provides place for. As long as I can remember, I've loved music and sharing my love for this with others. I believe it connects people, I read somewhere art is the decoration of space, while music is the decoration of time. I couldn't agree more. Here's a picture of my first guitar, the beautiful white Squier Stratocaster, his name was Andrew.

I was supposed to either go as an Au Pair in Germany in 2020, or complete Senior Year in High School in Texas, USA. But Covid had other plans. During this time I had to stay home, where I had my first boyfriend, learned how to cook and met tons of people who eventually became very dear to my heart. Mentally, I have matured quite a lot since I left home.

After two challenging years, I finally moved to Germany in 2022 to study International Business; my dream country to study since I was 16. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve met incredible people and their culture from all over the world.

I had the opportunity to work in a nightclub, which made me realize how much I appreciate having a routine during the day and relax during the night. My next job was at the Headquarters of the fourth largest cement company in the world, Heidelberg Materials.

As an only child, I cherish my friendships deeply, specially the closest ones, treating them like family. I have learned, life is too short to take things too seriously, and I believe in embracing every moment, Germany has taught me the biggest life lessons ever. From learning how to cook, how to keep an eye on my personal finances, to do things a bit more spontaneously.

Between gym sessions, reading personal development books and learning programming languages, I’m building the foundation for my future. My ambition drives me; I envision starting my own digital business within the next five years.

I'd be cool if you comment something you have learned while leaving abroad.

  1. Hi Jorge, thank you for taking the time to read my article and leave a deep and personal comment. I highly appreciate it, it seems as if you have a lot to share with the rest of us. Maybe you could keep sharing your experiences, somehow on social media; I'm sure many more people like myself will enjoy what you have to say. Warm regards.
